Azerbaijan and Georgia have explored prospects for military cooperation as a Georgian delegation led by Deputy Defence Minister Mikhail Darchiashvili visited Baku.

The delegation first met Azerbaijan`s Deputy Defence Minister Chingiz Mammadov, and they discussed the bilateral cooperation in military and military-educational fields, as well as regional security issues.

Georgian Deputy Minister Darchiashvili then met Azerbaijani Minister of Defence Zakir Hasanov, who lauded relations between the two countries as strategic.

Minister Hasanov touched upon military and political situation in the region, noting frozen conflicts in hot spots in both countries had been seriously hampering regional progress.

He called the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the main threat to regional stability, and stressed the importance of settling the dispute in compliance with international legal norms as well as UN Security Council’s relevant resolutions.

Deputy Defence Minister Darchiashvili said Georgia and Azerbaijan were important partners, noting cooperation between the defence ministries served common interests of both countries.

Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Teymuraz Sharashenidze was also present at the meeting.
