The coverage of the notion of terrorism will be expanded in Azerbaijan’s legislation. The Azerbaijani Parliament’s security and defense committee told APA that new amendments and annexes have been offered to the Law on Counterterrorism.
According to the proposed amendments, making open terrorism challenges, inciting Azerbaijani citizens or stateless persons permanently residing in Azerbaijan to the armed conflicts abroad under the pretext of promotion of religious faiths, fulfillment of religious ceremonies, or on the ground of religious enmity, setting up armed groups joining aggressive religious sects, financing terrorism in the country and abroad will be regarded as facts of terrorism. Criminal Code articles on terrorism will be applied, severe punishments imposed regarding these cases.
Amendments have been recently made to the Criminal Code articles on terrorism, punishments have been tightened.
The amendments and annexes to the Law on Counterterrorism have been recommended to the plenary meeting of the Parliament.
