Armenian armed forces opened fire at the positions located in the village of Barekamavan of Noemberyan region on the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Kamarli of Gazakh region, the Azerbaijani Defense ministry reported on March 7.

Also, the Azerbaijani positions were fired from the positions located near and at the nameless heights of the of Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Veyselli, Ashagi Seyidahmedli villages of Fizuli region, Mehdili village of Jabrail region, Chilaburt village of Tartar region and Kuropatkino village f Khojavand region.

The shooting was countered by return fire.

Earlier, the U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick said on his account in a social network that Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents re-committed to respecting the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire during the Olympic Games in Sochi.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the
liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
