News about the suicide attempt of disabled Karabakh war veteran Zaur Hasanov, head of a big family, has deeply shocked us, head of Department of Public and Political Issues of Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Ali Hasanov said.

The high-ranking official made the remarks on Dec. 27 in an interview with the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAc).

"According to information we have, the catering facility on the territory of Shikhov sanatorium, supervised by the "Kurort" JSC of the Azerbaijan Confederation of Trade Unions, was run by Zaur Hasanov," Ali Hasanov said. "The facility, according to the court order, was demolished due to illegal activity."

Hasanov went on to add that the principle of separation of powers was clearly established in Azerbaijan's constitution, adopted by nationwide voting.

He said no public authority, including Azerbaijani president and his administration, conducting supreme executive power, can intervene in decisions of courts, which constitute another wing of government.

"We can't change the court's decision. But given the fact that Zaur Hasanov is a war veteran and a head of a big family, every public authority and social organization, and foremost the Azerbaijani Confederation of Trade Unions should help him within their capabilities and powers to solve his social problems," he noted.

The official said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was very concerned and shocked by the news about Zaur Hasanov's self-immolation attempt.

"Mr. President gave necessary instructions to the relevant structures with regard to provision of a medical treatment for the disabled war veteran and a comprehensive care for his family. We hope that Zaur Hasanov will soon recover and return to his family," Ali Hasanov said.
