John Travolta, returning to the spotlight after the sudden death of his teenage son a year ago, said his faith had helped him get through the tragedy.
Travolta, 55, a leading Scientologist, spoke to reporters about how he, wife Kelly Preston and daughter Ella, were coping after 16 year-old Jett died of a seizure in January 2009.
"We work hard every day with our church on healing. And Kelly and I and Ella have all been working very hard and they've been helping us," the actor told Reuters Television at the New York premiere on Thursday of his new action comedy movie "From Paris With Love."
"So I think once you get yourself stable then you're able to reach out again. And I think this whole year, every day we've been working on stabilizing ourselves and it's been successful so far," he added.
Travolta spent much of 2009 out of the public eye after Jett's death at a resort in the Bahamas during a family vacation.
On Monday, the star of "Grease" and "Pulp Fiction" flew his personal plane to Haiti with 50 doctors and relief supplies for the earthquake-devastated nation. The return trip brought Haitian-Americans to the United States to reunite with their families.
Travolta said he hoped to do more for Haiti in coming weeks. "I'm investigating all the contacts I have to send more support. You want to get these big planes that other people have that you know of to do it for fuel only, and that kind of thing."
"From Paris With Love", which opens in U.S. movie theaters on February 5, sees Travolta playing a wise-cracking agent who is sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack.
