Azerbaijan has the potential to create an infrastructure for regeneration of wind energy with a capacity of 1,500-2,000 MW, Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Abbasov said in Baku at the international conference "Building relationships across borders" on Monday. The conference is organized jointly with the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly and the Baltic Assembly.

"In Azerbaijan there are all opportunities to build an infrastructure for regeneration of wind power with a capacity of 800 megawatts. The country also has an opportunity for the construction of a large number of small hydropower plants," said Abbasov.

Azerbaijan supplies 750,000 to 800,000 barrels of oil to the world market per day, he said. According to him, over the next years, Azerbaijan will be amongst the countries widely using alternative and renewable energy resources.

"Azerbaijan is an active participant in the process of supporting and realizing a number of projects to create oil and gas infrastructure and electricity transmission within energy corridors, covering a number of countries, particularly Europe, the Baltic states and GUAM," said Abbasov.
