Quotes of sturgeon fishing were ratified at a session of the Commission for Caspian biological reserves, held in Ashkhabad on January 29-31 of 2008.
The quotes were preserved on the level of 2007 for all countries, except for Iran.
A source in Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources told Day.Az, that the overall quote of sturgeon fishing has been established at 1061 tons.
In particular, the quote for Azerbaijan is set at 90 tons, for Russia 286.5 tons, Iran 440 tons (10 tons reduction), Kazakhstan 182.5 tons, Turkmenistan 62 tons.
"Quotes for the Caspian littoral states are established on basis of the following criteria: feeding base in a particular sector of the Caspian Sea, absolute mass of sturgeon feeding; biological mass of sturgeon in tons and by heads, fishery production; industrial reimbursement from natural spawning and fresh water flow, which means the volumes of fresh water, letting out by each littoral state to the sea", the source reported.
It should be noted that the inter-departmental commission for Caspian biological reserves was created in 1991 to ensure balanced settlement of issues of fishery in the Caspian water basin. Turkmenistan is chairing the commission in 2007-2008.
