Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture suspended licenses of 4 producers and 7 importers of vodka in 2007.

The due information was provided by Akhliman Nasirov, chief of Department of Food Quality, Standardization and Licensing under the Ministry of Agriculture.

He explained that the licenses of producing enterprises had been withdrawn due to the failure to execute a plan on the annual volume of production and the licenses of individuals and legal entities, importing vodka, suspended for importation of low-quality production, failure to present reports or for presenting false documentation.

He also announced that in period from 2003 until 2007, the Ministry of Agriculture issued 85 licenses for production and 35 licenses for importation of alcohol drinks. Moreover, 1 enterprise and 9 individuals and legal entities obtained licenses for production of tobacco wares.

In fact, only 2 importers are currently operating in the country.
