An explosion ripped through a storage tank at Turkey's largest oil refinery in northwestern Turkey on Thursday, killing two South African workers and injuring seven other people, the governor's office said.

The explosion at the TUPRAS oil refinery, near Izmit, some 60 miles east of Istanbul, occurred while workers were dismantling an empty tank, said Deputy Gov. Celalettin Ozdal.

Workers were evacuated because of a leak of poisonous gas at the facility, he said. The Associated Press
