President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev who is participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos met with the Chairman of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates.

Speaking on the priorities of Azerbaijan's economic policy, the President said the main goal is to use oil revenues to build a new economy in the country. The creation of high technology-based sectors, according to him, is what is needed first.

President let Gates know that very favorable conditions will be created in Azerbaijan for attracting foreign investors to the country and for developing high technologies here.

"The goal is to make revenues expected from this field in 10-15 years equal to oil ones, thereby reducing the country’s economic oil dependency," he said.

Gates welcomed the President's ideas and said he takes an interest in the economic development of the country. He pointed out the need for human resources to develop the area. He expressed his readiness for cooperation with Azerbaijan in the sphere of education.

The issue of bringing information technologies to Azerbaijan to provide information services to countries in the region was also the subject of the conversation.

Gates expressed the company's readiness to invest in and be the number 1 partner for Azerbaijan, and his willingness to visit the country. AzerTAg
