Several hundred government officials, legislators and entrepreneurs from Russia and Azerbaijan gathered in the capital of Baku Wednesday to discuss ways of boosting economic cooperation between the two former Soviet republics.

Addressing the gathering, Russian Industry and Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko, who co-chairs the Russia-Azerbaijan intergovernmental economic commission, said the forum would provide the governments of the two countries with clues as to what should be done to improve legislation regulating cooperation between their business communities, RIA Novosti informs.

The participants are expected to discuss cooperation in areas such as agriculture, investment, transport, education and information technologies. They will consider projects to supply Russian machinery, oil prospecting equipment and mining technologies to Azerbaijan and as well as ones to develop the transport corridor North-South, stretching from India across the Caspian Sea to northern Europe.
