Azerbaijan and Iran discussed construction of a bridge and a pedestrian crossing over the Astarachay River, Trend reports on Dec. 8 referring to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.

According to the ministry, Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov visited Iran’s Astara town to discuss the issues related to the transport sector between the two countries.

The Azerbaijani representatives met with the delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Khayrullah Khademi.

In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the governments of Azerbaijan and Iran on the construction of a road bridge and a pedestrian crossing over the Astarachay River, the meeting parties discussed the relevant financial, border, customs and environmental issues on the territory of the Astara (Azerbaijan) - Astara (Iran) border checkpoint.

During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation also examined the territory of the planned construction of the bridge and the terminal complex in Astara (Iran), and also held negotiations on the possibility of increasing the carrying capacity of this complex.

Besides, during the negotiations, the parties decided to continue the implementation of joint projects.
