The third sitting of the Working Group on Azerbaijan’s being member of the Worldwide Trade Organization was held the day before yesterday.

The head of the delegation, foreign affairs deputy-minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev informed in his opening declaration about the existing economic and social situation of Azerbaijan and the works conducted and documents prepared after the second sitting of the Working Group held on October 14, 2004 and stressed once again the intention of Azerbaijan to be the member of WTO.

The delegations of the European Union, USA, Australia, Canada, Turkey, Pakistan, China and other countries being the WTO members valued the efforts of Azerbaijan and documents presented to the WTO Secretariat positively. Then the delegation of Azerbaijan answered the question of the countries being the members about the presented documents. A decision on reviewing the question of preparing the primary document for preparing the project of the report of the Working Group on Azerbaijan’s being member of WTO in the next meeting and holding the next meeting of the Working Group in I term of 2006 was reached at the end of the sitting. Besides, two-sided talks with the delegations of the European Union, Canada and USA were held in the frame of the visit.

The primary offer of Azerbaijan on services and goods was discussed in the talks, and it is noted that the offer is a good basis for starting the talks. Besides, the head of the delegation
M.Mammadguliyev met with the permanent representatives of Malaysia and Japan. The process of Azerbaijan’s being the member of WTO, documents presented to the WTO Secretariat, holding two-sided talks with the above noted countries, possibilities of signing the two-sided protocols were discussed in these meetings.
