Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. will launch its Galaxy Note 4 on September 3, 2014. Executives at the Korean company’s top component suppliers told The Korea Times that Samsung will hold a special event to announce the Galaxy Note 4 on September 3, just a couple of days before the IFA kicks off in Berlin.

Samsung is looking to rush the Note 4 in an attempt to combat Apple Inc’s iPhone 6, which is expected to hit the shelves in the same month. Sources said that the Korean electronics giant will soon send official invitation letter to media, industry officials and interested parties for the event. Apple will launch 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions of the iPhone 6. The U.S. company has asked its suppliers to produce more than 80 million units of the new device by the year-end.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics CFO Kwon Young-noh told The Korea Times that the Galaxy Note 4 will sport “far better specifications” than the Galaxy S5, which received lukewarm response in the market. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is an affiliate of the electronics giant and supplies camera modules to Samsung.

Though the report doesn’t provide many details about the phone’s feature, it says that the Galaxy Note 4 will come with a metal frame and 5.7-inch QHD display. Samsung will also unveil a curved OLED display version of the Galaxy Note 4, which is not aimed at the mass market. That’s in-line with previous reports that the Note 4 will come in two variants, one with curved display and another with a flat display panel.

Sources said that the Note 4 will be the world’s first smartphone to feature an ultraviolet sensor that will protect you against cancer. It will be part of the ‘S Health’ application. The Korea Times noted that the Galaxy Note 4 will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and will “definitely” support 4G LTE technology.

Unsurprisingly, Samsung has signed deals with U.S. telecom carriers such as Verizon Communications Inc., AT&T Inc., T-Mobile US Inc and Sprint Corporation for the “guaranteed shipments” of the Galaxy Note 4. The company will also hold a major promotional event in China.
