27 February 2014 [10:40] - Today.Az

Some 2,380 cars totaling $ 20.35 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January 2014, the Georgian National Statistics Service told Trend on Feb. 25.

The share of this category of goods in a total volume of Georgian exports to Azerbaijan during the period amounted to 54.86 percent.

The export volume of passenger cars from Georgia reduced by 24.24 percent, or in quantitative terms - 0.580 units compared to the same period of 2013. For comparison, some 2,960 cars worth $26.86 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January 2013.

A decrease in the car supply to the country is explained by Azerbaijan's transition to Euro-4 environmental standard. It will be applied from April 1, 2014. Euro-4 introduction significantly restricts the import of used vehicles, which constitute a large part of vehicles imported from Georgia to Azerbaijan.

During the reporting period, some 290 trucks to the amount of $2.04 million were exported to Azerbaijan, which is 5.56 percent less (in terms of quantity - 0.070 units more) compared to January 2013. For comparison, some 220 trucks to the amount of $2.16 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January 2013.

The goods worth $ 37.09 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January 2014 or 16.6 percent of the country's total export volume during the period. The exports to Azerbaijan decreased by 19.5 percent per year. For comparison, Georgian goods worth $46.05 million were exported to Azerbaijan in January 2013.

The cars are delivered to Georgia from abroad.
