03 February 2014 [11:35] - Today.Az

Azerbaijan will create a state registry for seaports.

This is provided in the draft law on seaports, which was recommended by Azerbaijani parliament's economic policy committee on January 31 for discussion at the parliament's plenary session.

The registry will include the data on the ports, their technical characteristics, capabilities, services for freight and passenger vessels.

A port will be removed from the registry when it is shutdown.

The law will regulate relations in merchant shipping at the sea ports, as well as the ports' construction, opening and closing and the work there.

The law will reflect the basis for state regulation of seaports' operation.

It will also cover the activities of shipping agents, marine terminal operators, carriers, port infrastructure owners, as well as issues regarding the financing of ports' operations and terms for renting of the state owned property, and so on.
