The first Baku-Budapest direct flight opened on June 18.

The opening of the Baku-Budapest flight is a historic event, Hungarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zsolt Csutora said at a press conference on the opening of the flight on Monday.

"Today my dream comes true, the direct flight Budapest-Baku opens," he said.

According to Csutora, bilateral relations between the two countries attained a new level two and a half years ago.

"Hungarian Prime Minister and the President visited Baku twice. This year, the Azerbaijani President is expected to visit Hungary. Our relations are at a very high level," he said.

Wizz Air, the largest low-fare, low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, will perform the flights twice in a week.

Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi noted that Baku is the furthest eastern point of their flights. The new flight will contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.

"The Azerbaijani-Hungarian relations have developed fast in the past two years, and we are happy to contribute to the development of these relations. Our planes fly in 33 countries around the world. Azerbaijanis visiting Hungary will be able to discover not only Budapest, but also other European countries," Varadi said.

According to him, the company plans to transport some 30,000 passengers this year.

The Budapest-Baku flights will be implemented on Monday and Friday, while the Baku-Budapest flights will be carried out on Tuesday and Saturday. Flights will be operated by the new plane "Airbus A320". One-way ticket will cost 59 Euros.

Budapest, one of Europe's most beautiful cities, will offer Azerbaijani tourists Hungary's highly developed health recreation facilities and culinary delights.

The new route will connect the two countries directly for the first time, boost bi-directional tourism and establish an important link for trade and business between Hungary and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani capital Baku is the cultural, trading and economic center of the Caspian Sea and Caucasus due to its subtropical climate, historical heritage, favorable location and richness of natural resources will be definitely touristic attraction place for Hungarian tourists.
