Following the March 30 municipal elections in Turkey and the victory of the ruling Justice and Development Party, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is one of the most powerful political figures in the country, paid a visit to Azerbaijan.

Most of Turkish political analysts assumed that in the case of the AKP`s victory in the municipal elections, Erdogan will pay his first visit to the U.S., but he arrived in Baku.

On the eve of his visit, Erdogan said that the visit to Azerbaijan is a political tradition.

As a part of the visit, t he parties, along with the development of political, economic, military and cultural ties, certainly discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh problem as well.

Discussion of future cooperation between the two brotherly countries, based on the principle "one nation, two states", is natural.

If we look back into the history of relations between Ankara and Baku in general, we will witness the fact that cooperation between the two countries develops incrementally.

Ankara supported Azerbaijan in all issues, including the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Baku always supported Ankara.

PM Erdogan`s statement noted that Turkey's position on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is stable and will not change in the future.

Nevertheless, regardless of who is in power in Turkey, Ankara's change of position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is impossible.

One of the other important issues discussed between Azerbaijan and Turkey, is the TANAP project, which has a global significance. Along with the project, the other economic projects in the region were discussed.

As Erdogan said, no matter what kind of traditional the visit was to Azerbaijan, it can be noted that against the backdrop of geopolitical events in the region, this visit has a significant importance.

Erdogan's visit to Azerbaijan can be assessed from different points of view. One of them is related to the fact that the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations are developing not only in the political sphere, but also in all areas.

One of the important point is that Azerbaijan and Turkey united in economic projects that can change the energy policy in the world.

Erdogan's first visit to Azerbaijan immediately after the election shows that Ankara attaches special importance to Azerbaijan among Turkic states.

If we consider the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations, we can say that at the present time, these relations are at the highest level and will continue to grow incrementally.
