Radik Isayev crowned European Champion again

Azerbaijan's taekwondo fighter crowned European Champion for the second time in his career.  

The spectacular fighter Radik Isayev claimed gold medal in the men's 80kg weight category at the European Championship in Kazan.

Earlier, Milad Beigi Harchegani won silver on May 12. He secured the medal after losing to Russian Maxim Kramtsov in the men's 80kg weight category.

Azerbaijan's female taekwondo fighter Patimat Abakarova (49kg) took a bronze medal on May 10.

Kazan welcomed the elite of European Taekwondo at the palace of martial arts “Ak Bars” on May 10-13.

The topmost fighters of the continent competed in order to claim the prestigious title of the WTE European Champion 2018.

Radik has punched his way into the history books as he became the first Azerbaijani to win an Olympic taekwondo gold at the Rio Games 2016. He secured the gold medal thanks to a victory over Nigerien Abdoulrazak Issoufou Alfaga in the final.

Milad won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, while Patimat competed at the Rio Olympics in the women's 49 kg and won bronze medal.

Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in Azerbaijan. The National Taekwondo Federation has trained many prominent athletes since its founding in 1992. Many of those athletes now enjoy international recognition.

The Federation’s training facility houses new, state-of-the-art training equipment and has a proud history of bringing up more than 500 black belt recipients and athletes.
