The second International Boxing Forum will be held in Baku, bringing together heads of AIBA, WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.

The first International Boxing Forum will be held in Sochi, Russia on February 1-4, Azertac reported.

Russian Boxing Federation secretary general  Umar Kremlev said that the Russian Boxing Federation has done its best for the participation of more delegates from different countries at the forum.

Kremlyov noted that the forum is planned to be held every year and Azerbaijani representatives have initiated the next forum in their country. The Council of Champions and the Promoters Council will be also established within the forum.

The main goal of the forum is to hold an open dialogue, to establish mutual relations between federations and countries. Moreover, International Boxing Super session may be included in the forum.

Notably, the 55th Annual Convention of the World Boxing Council (WBC) opened this year in Baku with participation of 25 famous boxers, including Evander Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko and Kostya Tszyu.

The Council's agenda  included such issues as the world classifications, the calendar development of compulsory matches, medical seminars, referees' seminars and review of the competition rules and the awarding of various nominations.

The national boxers win many prestigious awards and always raise the national flag in the international tournaments.

In 2000, at the Sydney Olympic Games boxer Vugar Alakbarov defeated a series of strong, more experienced opponents, and won a bronze medal, Azerbaijan’s first Olympic medal in boxing.

Agasi Mammadov wrote his name into the annals of the country’s boxing history. He became the first Azerbaijani to be awarded the title of world champion.

Today, younger generation continues successes gained by the athletes in recent years and uphold the sporting honor of the country at the Olympic Games.
