Azerbaijani boxer wins his third world title

The 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships ended in Hamburg, Germany, where over 200 boxers from across the globe competed for world champion titles.

Azerbaijan’s hopes were pinned on Mahammadrasul Majidov (+91 kg), Lorenzo Sotomayor (64 kq), Kamran Shakhsuvarli (75 kq) and Parviz Bagirov (69 kg).

Mahammadrasul Majidov (+91kg) claimed his third world title as triumphed in Germany, Azertac reported.

Majidov claimed gold after defeating Kazakh Kamshibek Kunkabayev 4-1 in the final bout in the 91kg weight category.

He became the first Azerbaijani boxer who achieved such success.

Majidov has already became the twice world champion in Baku in 2011 and in Almaty in 2013. The boxer is also the bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympic Games and 2015 European Games. He was crowned European Champion in 2013 in Minsk.

Moreover, the boxer is the winner of Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games 

Boxer Kamran Shahsuvarli (75kg) claimed bronze in Germany.

Overall, Azerbaijani boxers finished 4th in the overall medal table of the AIBA World Championships held in Hamburg, Germany.

Cuba topped the medal table, followed by Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
