Journey from the Caspian in Sabirabad

Another destination of Baku 2017 Journey from the Caspian is Sabirabad.


An event was held at the Kur-Araz lowland. Kur-Araz lowland is the crossing point of the two largest rivers in the country – Kur and Araz. The area borders with the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in north and Talish Mountains in south.


Azad Asgarov, gold medalist of the World Mixed Martial Arts Championship, Seyfulla Mehdiyev, Azerbaijan freestyle wrestling champion and Tahir Guliyev fourth grader of school No.1 of Sabirabad who is also a football enthusiast filled copper vessel which was then presented at the Water Festival held in Heydar Aliyev park in the evening.


Later on, the regional sports event was held at Sabirabad town Olympic Sports Complex within Domestic Grassroots program of Baku 2017 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. This contest, organized for school children was attended by the Celebrity Ambassadors of Islamic Solidarity Games Rafael Isgandarov, Joshgun Rahimov and Mushfig Abbasov.


The event was followed by the Water Festival in Heydar Aliyev park. Local visitors of this free event enjoyed performances of Mirvari dance group, Sarkhan Bakhshiyev, Zoya Mammadova, Shamil Sabirabadli, spectacular water effects and fireworks.


It should be noted that the Journey from the Caspian will last for 37 days and end in Baku, during the Opening Ceremony on May 12. Children from various parts of the country will welcome athletes and spectators from over 50 countries of the Islamic world at the Games with pure water of Azerbaijan, collected from lakes and rivers, springs and creeks.
