200 Indonesian athletes to join Islamic Games in Baku

During the significant sporting event of the year, Baku will be visited by thousands of foreign athletes to participate at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games.

As many as 200 Indonesian athletes will assembled in Azerbaijan to attend the event scheduled to take place on May 12-22.

The head of Indonesian parliamentary delegation Meutya Viada Hafid made the remark at a meeting at the  Azerbaijani parliament during his visit to Baku.

Hafid stressed good relations existing between the two countries, voicing his hope that they will even develop in the future.

A multinational and multi-sport event involving the elite athletes of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation will welcome over 5,000 athletes to compete in 10-day competition.  

Athletes from Islamic countries around the world will be representing their nations across 20 different sports which include 24 disciplines (Athletics and Para Athletics, Aquatics – Diving, Aquatics – Swimming, Aquatics – Water Polo, Basketball 3x3, Football, Gymnastics – Artistic, Gymnastics – Rhythmic, Wushu, Table Tennis, Handball, Judo and Blind Judo, Wrestling – Greco, Wrestling – Freestyle, Shooting, Tennis, Volleyball, Boxing, Zurkhaneh, Karate, Taekwondo and Weightlifting) in 16 state-of-the-art competition venues across Baku.

Azerbaijan’s capital city Baku was awarded the Games at the General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) in Jeddah in July 2013.

The official opening ceremony and closing of the fourth Islamic Solidarity Games will be held at the Baku Olympic Stadium.
