National karate fighters to vie for World Championship trophies

Azerbaijan’s senior karate fighters have left for Linz, Austria, to compete at the 24th World Karate Championship, Azertac reported.

National karate fighters will be in action in both individual and team competitions.

President of the National Karate Federation of Azerbaijan, member of the Technical Committee of the World Karate Federation Yashar Bashirov accompany the team during the championship.

The Karate World Championships are the highest level of competition for Karate. The competition is held in a different city every two years.

This year, the tournament brings together record-breaking number of 1,024 registered athletes from 118 countries.

The National Karate Federation of Azerbaijan was established in 1994. Since 1997, the National Federation became a full member of WKF (World Karate Federation), the world's largest karate organization that unites more than 50 million members of the 180 countries of the world.

Azerbaijani karateists  took part at the European and World championships.

At present, the composition of national team consists of repeated World and European champions.
