Media tour of Baku Crystal Hall prior to Chess Olympiad

A tour of the Baku Crystal Hall, the venue of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad, has been organized for representatives of the media, as journalists were informed about the conditions available during the competition.

The press officer of the Baku Chess Olympiad, Sanan Shafizade, said preparations for the event were already in the final stages of completion.

According to Shafizade, journalists from all over the world have been registered for the Olympiad. “Of 248 journalists registered for the event, 150 represent local media. The Organizing Committee has attempted to create conditions for the comfortable and smooth work of all the journalists. An information guide has been prepared for the media in three languages (Azerbaijani, Russian and English).

There will be a separate gate for the access of journalists to the event. A live broadcast of press conferences will also be arranged. There will be at least four or five press conferences each day. The games will be analyzed online in three languages. The press center will operate continuously from 10:00 to 23:00. Media representatives will receive invitations to the opening ceremony. Video and photo shoots will be allowed only for the first 15 minutes of each round. No flash photography will be allowed,” he said.

Shafizade added that an exhibition hall would also operate at the Baku Crystal Hall during the event. “Chess fans can see ancient chess boards and interesting photos there. Rooms representing several Azerbaijani districts will be set up around the Baku Crystal Hall, where visitors can help themselves to traditional sweets and tea.”

Then the journalists toured the media center, the playing and exhibition halls, etc. The press officer of the Baku Chess Olympiad also answered questions from journalists. Then the registered journalists received their accreditation cards.

The opening ceremony of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena at 19:00 on 1 September. The competition proper will start at the Baku Crystal hall on September 2. More than 180 countries will compete in the Olympiad, which is expected to attract an online audience of 5 million people. More than 200 arbiters will also join the event, including 26 representing Azerbaijan. The Chief Arbiter of the Baku Chess Olympiad is the Vice President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Faik Hasanov.

The closing ceremony of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena on September 13.
