23 July 2016 [14:26] - TODAY.AZ

Sports in Azerbaijan, including gymnastics, is developing rapidly, Rashad Babayev, a spectator of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku, told Trend July 23.

The FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics is being held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Azerbaijan’s capital, giving a unique opportunity to watch the performances of eminent gymnasts from 17 countries two weeks prior to the Rio Olympics.

“I came here with my entire family to watch the performances of gymnasts,” said Babayev. “Azerbaijan attaches special attention to sports.”

“I want to express my gratitude to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva that they have created conditions in Azerbaijan for the development of gymnastics,” added Babayev.

He believes that holding such international events in Azerbaijan plays an important role in promoting the country in the world.

“It is our civil duty to support and encourage our teams,” added the spectator. “We should bring our children to such places in order to increase their interest in sports.”

The FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics will last until July 24.

Twenty-six gymnasts and nine teams will compete for medals in the all-around on the first two days of competitions. Apparatus finals will be held on the event’s last day.

A traditional Gala will be held on July 24, as part of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku.
