FIG technical delegate: Azerbaijan has strong gymnastics school

Azerbaijan has in recent years taken such a big step towards the development of gymnastics that it has managed to create its own strong school, Noha Abou Shabana, member of Technical Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), told Trend July 22.

Baku is very well prepared to host the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics, she added.

Abou Shabana noted that Azerbaijan has great experience in holding competitions and the organizers here know their work well.

The National Gymnastics Arena in Baku is ready for the start, she said, adding that the organizers and Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation have done excellent work.

The member of the FIG Technical Committee pointed out that Azerbaijan has already developed its own basis, it has a strong gymnastics school and very few countries have such facilities with excellent conditions.

The FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics will take place in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku on July 22-24, giving a unique opportunity to watch the performances of eminent gymnasts from 17 countries two weeks prior to the Rio Olympics.

Twenty-six gymnasts and 9 teams will compete for medals in the all-around on the first two days of competitions. Apparatus finals will be held on the event’s last day.

A magnificent opening ceremony, directed by the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team Mariana Vasileva, will be held on July 22, followed by the traditional Gala on July 24, as part of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku.
