Second V1 Challenge Azerbaijan about to start in Baku

V1 Challenge 2016 Azerbaijani Championship will take place in the vicinity of Baku Olympic Stadium, near the Boyukshor park on May 29, Azerbaijan Automobile Federation (AAF) told Trend.

The championship will bring together 12 pilots, who will initially compete in the classification stage. Further, they will be divided into three groups. At the end, first three place owners will be awarded.

Azerbaijan hosted its first V1 Challenge competition on October 11, 2014. It was held in Baku Crystal Hall, attracting 14 racers from 12 countries. Anthoine Hubert from France, Harald Muller (Germany) and Abdo Feghali (Lebanon) took first three places respectively.

The competition was watched by 18 million spectators. The winner of the competition was awarded with 10,000 manats, while the second and the third place winners were awarded with 5,000, and 2,000 manats, respectively.

AAF brings together and facilitates the joint activities of professional and amateur organizations and people engaged in automobile sports and traffic safety in Azerbaijan. It is a full-fledged member of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The FIA, which organizes and manages various international projects in the area of automobile sports, traffic safety, and car industry innovations all over the world, collaborates with Azerbaijan Automobile Federation and supports its activity in the country.

The 2014’s challenge brought together European champion Patrick Snijers from Belgium, three-fold Drift Challenge champion and the holder of the longest drift record in 2014 Harald Muller from Germany, five-time champion of Portugal and European silver medalist Miguel Campos, winner of V1 Challenge 2011 Burak Cukurova from Turkey, winner of V1 Challenge Moldova 2012 Nicolae Chiriac, and winner of France F4 and Volant Euroformula 2013 races Anthoine Hubert.

Azerbaijan's team included national carting champions Gulhuseyn Abdullayev, Adil Akhundov and V1 Challenge Moldova 2013 winner Timur Muradov. A number of well-known racers are supposed to participate in V1 Challenge 2016 as well.
