Baku to host World Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics final

Azerbaijan, achieving great heights in gymnastics in a short time, continues to host prestigious international sporting events.

This summer final of the World Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics will take place in Azerbaijan’s capital on July 22-24.

Baku spectators will have a chance to watch performance of famous gymnasts from 22 countries for two weeks before the main event of the year -- Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.

On the first two days of the competition, 34 world-renowned athletes and 11 teams will compete in group exercises. The last day of the Cup finals will see performances in different disciplines.

This year FIG held nine stages of the World Cup. Baku finals will see special awarding ceremony of gymnasts and groups, who took first place in accordance with four best results shown in the previous stages.

Azerbaijani gymnasts will be represented by silver medalist of the 1st European Games, bronze medalist of European Championship Marina Durunda, as well as silver medalist European Championship among juniors Jala Piriyeva, who just joined the ranks of adult gymnasts.

Siyana Vasileva, Ayshan Bayramova, Alexandra Platonova, Diana Doman and Elif Zeynep Celep will represent the country in group exercises.

Day by day the national gymnasts bring more and more medals from international tournaments, achieving significant successes on the world arena.

Good results require many efforts and diligence, what the national athletes put on display participating in the country championships, which play an important preparatory role for more serious competitions.

This weekend the Azerbaijan and Baku Championship among Age Categories in Acrobatics came to an end at the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concerts Complex.

The event welcomed 67 athletes, representing “Ojag” and “Neftchi” clubs as well as Baku Gymnastic School and Nizami District Specialized Children-Youth Sports School. Athletes of “Ojag” club for the first time participated at competitions in acrobatics.

The two-day competition saw performances of Baku sports clubs demonstrated their performances in the all-around among youngsters aged 6-14, children aged 9-16, pre-juniors aged 10-18, juniors aged 11-19 and seniors aged 14 and older.

In Men's Pairs the winners among seniors were Murad Akparov and Seymur Jafarov, among pre-juniors - Seymur Babayev and Bakhtiyar Ibrahimov, In Women's Pair Laman Zeynalzada and Ayla Zakiryaeva ranked the first among children.

In Mixed Pairs, Nurjan Jabbarli and Aghasif Rahimov among juniors, and Farhad Sattarov and Nazrin Gasimova among youngsters mounted the first step of the podium.

As for the group performances, gold was taken by Men’s Group of Elvin Nuhov, Huseyn Huseynov and Rufat Azizov among youngsters, and Women’s Group of Aygun Ahmadova, Nazrin Farmanova and Leyla Bashirova among pre-juniors, Samra Askarzada, Jeyla Zakiryaeva and Mina Beydiyeva among children, Elvira Huseynova, Fatima Nazarova and Arzu Malikzada among youngsters.
