Azerbaijani rider gets more points ahead of Rio 2016

Azerbaijan's woman road rider and the member of BTC Ljubljana team of Sloveni, Elena Povlukhina recorded consecutive points for Rio-2016 Summer Olympic Games.

The 12 points from the Tour of Zhoushan Island held in the Republic of China firmed her long-awaited biggest challenge in Brazil this summer.

The 2.2 category 3-day UCI stage race has been pretty light but hard race for our rider and she has been 4th in the GC among 70 competitors.

In the mean time it is significant to mention the Tour of Chongming held on May 6-8 in China where Elena took 9th in GC with 30 points.

According to the UCI points list Elena Povlukhina with 137 points stands 70th among 685 riders. She still has chance to hold a licence to Rio-2016. According to the UCI regulations the UCI points list will be closed as of May 31 and the names of licence holders will be clarified.

The 2016 Summer Olympics is due to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 5-21. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees will take part in RIO 2016.

The world's biggest sporting event will feature 42 sports and Azerbaijan has secured qualifications in wrestling, gymnastics, rowing, boxing, taekwondo, athletics, weightlifter and in Paralympics sports.
