Azerbaijani racer Gulhuseyn Abdullayev, who repeatedly represented the country in karting competitions, started the 2016 season with a successful race.

18-year-old Gulhuseyn participated at 7th and 8th rounds of the Formula Gulf 1000 championship at the Dubai Autodrome in late January.

The start of round 7, consisting of 10 laps became a little unsuccessful for Gulhuseyn. However, he took control of the situation, finishing the race third. Cato Poulsen from Denmark and Saudi’s Mashuur Balhejaila took the first two places respectively.

In the 8th round, Gulhuseyn could take the lead from the first lap. Maintaining the advantage until the end of the race, he raised the victory cup, leaving behind Saudi’s Omar Gazzaz and Italian driver Giulio Peroni.

The difference in best lap times of all the drivers was notably less than 8 tenths of a second over a massive 5.5kms circuit with 16 turns.

Gulhuseyn became interested in karting at the age of 8, taking part in the parade of Formula 1 in Istanbul. So far, Abdullayev has participated in many international championships, and is recognized as one of the best racers in Turkey in 2013.

Last year Gulhuseyn took the first place in the RMC DD 2 karting race in Turkey.

In the same year, he performed at the "Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals" world karting championships, which was held in New Orleans (USA), and for the first time raised the Azerbaijani flag at such a prestigious international championship.

He also won the third and fourth rounds of the championship "V1 Challenge Bulgaria 2015", held in the Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora.
