Azerbaijani rider wins Rio-2016 licence

Maxim Averin, a member of Azerbaijan's National Team Elite and Synergy Baku Cycling Project Continental team, has won a license to the 31st Summer Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this August.

The International Cycling Union sent an official letter to the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee and Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, approving 31-year-old Maxim’s candidacy to represent Azerbaijan in the elite road race in this grandiose event.

To be among those 142 successful candidates for Rio-2016, Maxim Averin so far has collected sufficiently 158 UCI points during the races in his Synergy Baku's squad over the last year.

Maksim is Ukrainian born cyclist, who recently accepted the Azerbaijani citizenship. For about eight years he competed for the Italian and Swiss clubs until he joined Synergy Baku.

He has joined the Synergy Baku since 2012 and achieved successful results in the very short time.

Maksim is the son of Aleksander Averin, who was born in 1954 in Baku. Azerbaijan's veteran rider Alexander participated in the Montreal Summer Olympic Games representing the USSR team in 1976.
