Last gymnastics competition of year ends in Baku

Last gymnastics competition of the year, the 22nd Azerbaijan Championship among Age Categories and Interregional Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics came to an end at Baku’s National Gymnastics Arena on December 19.

The tournament brought together about 160 athletes from the capital’s schools such as Baku Gymnastics School, “Ojag Sport”, “Neftchi”, “Spartak”, “Sarhadchi”, “Start” sports clubs, Republican Complex Sports School, Hovsan Olympic Sports Complex, as well as the gymnasts representing Nakhchivan, Khirdalan, Sumgayit, Shirvan, Gusar, Goychay, Ganja, Ismayilli, Kurdamir regions.

In the youngsters competition among gymnasts born in 2005, Narmin Bayramova took the first place, while Seljan Hajizade and Elnara Cabbarova ranked second and third, respectively.

In the youngsters competition among gymnasts born in 2006 Kamilla Aliyeva won gold, Fidan Yusifzade claimed silver and Jahan Asadova took bronze.

The same category among gymnasts born in 2007 ended with the victory of Fatima Mammadzade, followed by Nuray Hasanzade and Aylin Mammadova.

In the pre-juniors competition among those born in 2003-2004 Latifa Sultaliyeva took the first place. Second and third places went to Alina Fazilova and Aytaj Suleymanli.

In juniors competition Khuraman Babayeva placed first and Nurjahan Aliyeva second, while in seniors category Leyla Seyidova claimed gold.

In the Interregional Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics among youngsters born in 2005 Narmin Bayramova took the first, followed by Asiman Ordukhanova and Nazli Hajiyeva.

The same category among those born in 2006 ended with victory of Nazrin Cavadli. Jannat Bayramli and Nasiba Seyfullazade ranked second and third.

In youngsters category among gymnasts born in 2007 Nanabaji Shafiyeva claimed the gold, Maryam Feyzullayeva took silver and Sada Nazurova secured bronze.

In pre- juniors competition Darya Farshbaphshahriyari placed first, followed by Luzan Yelizaveta and Narin Gurbanova accordingly.

Juniors competition ended with the victory of Zohra Agamirova, who was followed by Gudis Veronika and Ayna Jafarova.

Marina Durunda, the owner of the 1st European Games silver and the 2015’s European Championships’ bronze medals, qualified for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games performed on the final day of the competition and secured the gold medal, followed by Jala Piriyeva and Renata Alekperova.

Azerbaijani gymnast Marina Durunda will show a completely new program at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, head coach of the national rhythmic gymnastics team Mariana Vasileva told reporters.

"After the World Cup in Stuttgart, we changed all four exercises and music, changed the style of routine - in short, we have prepared a brand new program. In addition, the group changed the composition of the team. We have included Aisha Bayramova and Zeyneb Chelebi, who previously performed individually," said Vasileva.
