International Chess Festival due in Baku

Azerbaijan will host the 24th international Chess Festival Baku Open-2015 that will last from September 29 to October 8.

The event will be dedicated to the 24th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence.

Azerbaijan’s famous grandmasters such as Vugar Rasulov, Sarkhan Guliyev and Gunay Mammadzade, international masters Logman Guliyev, Bahruz Rzayev, Nijat Agayev, Orkhan Abdulov, Talib Babayev, Kenan Heyderli and Sabina Guliyeva will compete in the A Group tournament.

The Swiss system tournament will feature 9 rounds.

The prize of Baku Open-2015 is $40,000.

The development of chess in Azerbaijan today remains a state policy. Almost every Azerbaijani region has its own chess school what gives children from different families a chance to develop their talents.
