National rowers turn to fans for support ahead of Baku 2015

Two national rowers who will participate at the first-ever European Games to be held in Baku on June 12-28 have had a press conference with journalists.

Four-time world and four-time European champion Valentin Demyanenko and European and World Cup champion Sergey Bezugliy called on their fans to support them during this significant sporting event.

Speaking to journalists Valentin said: “I believe that Azerbaijani rowers will achieve good result during the Games. We trained a lot and our trainings are still underway. The only thing we need is fans’ support. Encourage us for the highest results,” he said.

“I respect all my 17 rivals, who will compete together with me, but I afraid none of them.”

Sergey, for his part, also called on his fans to support him at the Baku 2015. “I invite everyone who wants to support us to the competition venue. Your support is very important for us. When sportsmen know that everyone comes to see their game, then they feel themselves responsible, strong and confident. I give a word to do all my best to wave Azerbaijani flag above the venue,” the rower said.

A total of seven rowers trained by main coach Aleksandr Kolibelnikov will compete for the best title during the Games.

The canoe and kayak competitions will last three days on June 14-16, as part of the Baku 2015 in the Azerbaijan’s Mingachevir region at the “Kur” Olympic Training Center.

Duo, Aleksey Kupin and Valentin will compete in the single men boat race (C-1) 200 meters competition, while Sergey will show his performanc in the double men boat race (C-2) 1,000 meters race competition.

Taras Matviychuk will represent the country in the single boat race (K-1) 1,000 meters competition.

Kayaker Mirnazim Javadov will represent the country in the single men boat race (K-1) 200 meters, while Tamerlan Mustafayev will compete for the title in the 1,000-meter competition.

In the women competition, Olympic champion Inna Osipenko-Radomskaya will show her performance in the single women boat race (K-1) 200 and 500 meters.

A total of 20 sports will be played at Baku 2015 including 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Eleven of the sports will offer qualification opportunities for Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Those sports include Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Triathlon, Volleyball and Wrestling.
