Baku to host 55th European Karate Championships

The Azerbaijan’s capital Baku will host another significant event - the 55th European Karate Championships to be held in 2020.

The decision was made in the congress of the European Karate Federation, which was held in Istanbul on March 20.
Earlier, Yashar Bashirov, President of the Azerbaijan National Karate Federation and member of the Technical Committee of the World Karate Federation suggested the championships be held in Baku. Congress has approved and authorized ANKF’s president's proposal.

Addressing the event, Bashirov said Azerbaijan is known as a sporting nation, adding that the state strongly supports the organization of major official competitions. “Proof of this is, the forthcoming first European Games, Islamic Games to be held in 2017,” he emphasized.

Bashirov also noted that he is assured that the European Karate Championships will be held to the highest standards of professionalism.
Speaking at the event, Dmitry Chigenev, manager of karate competitions of the first European Games Baku-2015 provided detailed information about upcoming games and talked about the last preparations.

Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place from 12 – 28 June 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015 including 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
