Seaside Boulevard renovated for Baku 2015

The whole Baku is now preparing to welcome guests during the historic Baku 2015 European Games in June. To this end, energetic efforts are underway at the Baku Seaside Boulevard.

Both tourist who will come to Azerbaijani capital for the first time and those who have already visited Baku, will find many innovations at the seaside park.

Currently, repairing work is underway on the territory of the park, flowerbeds are created and seasonal flower planting is underway, said Nazim Majidov, Deputy Manager of the Department of National Seaside Park.

"If the weather is warm, plastic covering of the trees that protects them from the wind and cold, will be removed before Novruz holiday. Two park amusements were recently put into operation, and commissioning of two more is planned before the summer," he said.

Majidov said the number of payment terminals increased in cafes, restaurants and shopping facilities, operating on the territory of the boulevard.

There are more payment terminals installed in the shopping sites, than it was previously, however, there are still sites without them, he noted.

Moreover, the park increased the number of security officers and other employees speaking English.

In addition, guests of the park will be able to use Wi-Fi service throughout the boulevard in June.

Majidov said the Wi-Fi network has already been established in many places of the Seaside National Park.

Tourists can promenade at the park and use trains to travel faster. In February and March, the park will also enjoy more walking train.

"After the expansion of the Seaside National Park, the routes of trains will also change. Now they run the three routes - from Baku International Sea Station to the Parachute Tower, from the Parachute Tower to the National Flag Square, and from the Palace of Hand Games to Baku Crystal Hall,” Majidov explains.

Expansion of the promenade territory is accelerated, and another part of the park is expected to be commissioned in May.

The current length of the Seaside National Park is more than six kilometers, and after expansion it will increase to 15 kilometers.

Sea-voyage lovers will also have a chance to enjoy new route of the pleasure boats.

"Now, the route passes the waters of the bay, near the State Flag Square and the Baku Crystal Hall,” Majidov added. “However, after the expansion of the boulevard, the route will be extended, and pleasure boats will run the entire coastline of the Seaside National Park. At present, boats operate on Saturdays and Sundays, when the weather conditions permit."

As the biggest sporting event in Azerbaijan's history, the Baku 2015 European Games will attract more than 6,000 athletes to represent 49 countries in 20 sports on June 12-28.

The Baku 2015 Games will take place in 21 stadia and facilities in Baku and Mingachevir city. The official opening ceremony of the games will take place in the 68,000-seat Baku Olympic Stadium. The Athletes Village will accommodate up to 7,300 people.
