Baku 2015 official hails sports infrastructure in Nakhchivan

Baku 2015 official has hailed sports infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan.

William Louis-Marie, Baku 2015 Director of Communications, said sports facilities in Nakhchivan meet international standards.

Louis-Marie expressed confidence this infrastructure will be contributing to the development of sports in the autonomous republic for many years.

Touching upon the first European Games to take place in Baku this year, he said the main goal of the Organizing Committee is to make these Games a historic event.

The biggest sporting event in Azerbaijan's history Baku 2015 European Games will attract more than 6,000 athletes to represent 49 countries in 20 sports on June 12-28.

The Baku 2015 Games will take place in 21 stadia and facilities in Baku and Mingachevir city. The official opening ceremony of the Games will take place in the 68,000-seat Baku Olympic Stadium. The Athletes Village will accommodate up to 7,300 people.

Nakhchivan economic region of Azerbaijan is separated from the main part of Azerbaijan, as a result of expansionist policy of the Armenia. The territory of Nakhchivan region makes 6 percent of Azerbaijan territory. This region is rich with natural reserves and valuable mineral springs.

Nakhchivan being one of ancient cultural centers of Azerbaijan has wide social-cultural infrastructure. Besides scientific departments of the National Academy of Sciences of the Autonomous Republic, secondary, professional, musical, cultural and educational, medicinal sites and museums, there are many historical monuments here.
