German coach of Azerbaijan's national football team Berti Vogts has resigned.

President of Azerbaijan Football Federations Association Rovnag Abdullayev met with Vogts in Zurich on October 16. They discussed the matches of Azerbaijani football team in the Euro-2016 group stage.

Vogts said he didn't see his future in Azerbaijani team adding that the team lacked a decisive will in the last match with Croatia. Moreover, he noted that the physical unreadiness of the players is still one of the main problems of the Azerbaijani team.

He thanked AFFA for the opportunities he was provided with during his six years of work in Azerbaijan. "Azerbaijani is my second native land," Vogts said.

However, the German coach refused Abdullayev's offer to return to the team.

AFFA president said Vogts will always be remembered with great respect in Azerbaijan and will remain the friend of Azerbaijani football.

"Vogts's activity as a manager affected Azerbaijani football positively. Our national team has achieved its best result namely under Vogts management by gaining 9 points at the qualification stages. The national football team has jumped to 73rd place in FIFA rankings," Abdullayev said.

Azerbaijani football team suffered a 0-6 defeat from the Croatian team at the last match of the Euro-2016 group stage. That was the second consecutive defeat following the national team's 1-2 beating by Italy and contributed to calls for Vogts's resignation.
