Baku ready for Polo World Cup

Baku will host the Arena Polo World Cup on September 5-7. The event will be held in Polo Arena, in a completely new built polo stadium in Bina Equestrian Center.

This is the second time that Baku is hosting the event. The event involves four professional teams of Argentina, U.S., Europe and Azerbaijan.

The teams will be sponsored by such famous brands as Chopard, Maserati, Baltika7 and Embawood.

Azerbaijan Horsing Federation reported that Azerbaijan's team was trained by the professional coaches of the Alegria Polo Farm in Buenos Aires for the first time in the history of polo and the national team is ready for the competition.

Azerbaijani team's trainer was Raul Laplacette and his coaching staff, as well as well-known polo trainer, Thomas Winter from Hamburg.

The organizers of the event have included many entrainment programs for the guests: the disco in "Jumeirah Bilgah Beach Hotel" will be held on September 5 after the competition, the concert program of famous "In-Grid" and "I Love Italy" groups will take place on September 6 and the closing ceremony - on September 7.

The tickets are available in "Kempinski Hotel Badamdar", "Khazar Golden Beach Hotel" and "Elite Horse and Polo Club".

The first Polo Arena World Cup was held in Baku in 2013, under the slogan "Bringing Polo Home".

Central Asia is the birthplace of polo which looks back upon a centuries-old tradition in Azerbaijan as its ancient form "Chovgan" was played here. Various antique prints and ceramics suggest that the sport has a long history there.

In late 2013, Azerbaijani game "Chovgan", which is played riding Karabakh horses, was included in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO at the request of Baku.
