Howard Webb to not whistle anymore

07 August 2014 [14:45] - TODAY.AZ
Howard Webb, who officiated the 2010 World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands in South Africa, has announced his retirement from refereeing at the age of 43.

The Premier League issued a statement on Wednesday revealing that Webb would hang up his whistle after 25 years of service in order to take up the role of technical director of Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the body governing refereeing in England.

"I am very excited to start this new chapter in my career after a wonderfully rewarding 25 years on the pitch. I have spent over a decade with the best seat in the house for Barclays Premier League matches, been lucky enough to be involved in nine UEFA and FIFA tournaments, and taken charge of the UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup finals", Webb stated.
