Whom Messi wants to beat in WC final?

12 June 2014 [13:00] - TODAY.AZ
Argentina captain Lionel Messi is eager for a World Cup final showdown against Neymar's Brazil.

Messi has seen Argentina get eliminated in the quarter-finals of both his previous World Cups, with the four-time Ballon d'Or winner scoring just once in eight appearances at the finals.

And the 26-year-old would like nothing better than to lead his side to global glory in Brazil by seeing off a home side led by Barcelona team-mate Neymar.

"It would be a dream to get to the World Cup final," Messi told Sport.

"Hopefully I can play Neymar in the final."

The Barca star has admitted to being hurt by accusations that he does not endeavour to reach the same standards for his country as he does at club level, but he is desperate to lay to rest his earlier struggles with the Albiceleste in Brazil.

"We're really looking forward to the tournament. I think I've learned what I did wrong in previous editions and I don't want to repeat those mistakes," added the 26-year-old.

Argentina begin their Group F campaign against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday, before then facing Iran and Nigeria.
