Xavi shares Raul crown

20 February 2014 [10:00] - TODAY.AZ
The Barcelona midfielder will, in tonight's game against Manchester City, match former Real Madrid star Raúl González Blanco's record of 144 Champions League games played.

With this tie, Xavi Hernández also becomes the Spanish player to have made the greatest number of appearances in this European tournament. Only one player has taken to the field more times in this championship, and that is Ryan Giggs. Paolo Maldini follows the Spaniards in the list, with 139 appearances. The 'Azulgrana' is set to extend this Champions league record even further as he forms a key part of Tata Martino's team.

Statistically speaking, it is also a day for Andrés Iniesta to celebrate, with the midfielder reaching the milestone of his one-hundredth European game with Barcelona (95 in Champions League, three in UEFA and two in UEFA Super Cup).
