Bayern Munich was the best club in the world in 2013, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). The Federation ranked Real Madrid second and Atlético Madrid and Barcelona in fourth and fifth place respectively.
According to the Federation's scale, Bayern notched up a total of 370 points, while Real Madrid with 290 points comes in ahead of Chelsea (273), Atlético Madrid (251) and Barcelona (247).
It is the first time in the history of the Club World Ranking that a German club is the winner. Moreover, FC Bayern Munich had the second highest score in the history of the ranking, surpassed only second only by FC Juventus with a total of 372.7 points in 1993.
According to the IFFHS, Real Madrid reached the semifinals of the Champions League and the final of the Copa del Rey and was second in the Spanish League. Some great performances by Atlético Madrid shunted Barça into fifth place in the ranking.
