Georgian athletes to partake at Sochi Olympics

Georgian sportsmen will attend the Sochi Olympic Games.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili made the statement at the 42nd session of Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation in Tbilisi, on December 18.

"Despite the fact that our country has been occupied, the first steps for establishing trade, economic and cultural relations with Russia have already been taken and work in this direction is underway. Our sportsmen will attend the Sochi Olympics, as, we believe that sport should be free from politics," Garibashvili said.

He earlier said Georgia's official delegation will not attend the Sochi Olympics.

Georgian Airline Airzena recently announced that it will perform direct flights on the route Tbilisi - Sochi within the 2014 Winter Olympics Games. The company will perform the first flight on February 4.

The most recent sociological study of U.S. National Democratic Institute (NDI) showed that 66% of respondents in Georgia find the Georgian sportsmen' attending the Sochi Olympics acceptable.

The 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be held on February 7-23, 2014 in Sochi, Russia.
