Turkey takes an early leave of the Under-20 World Cup after being severely defeated 4-1 by France tonight, in the second round of the tournament.

During the match played in the southern city of Gaziantep, the hosts were unable to keep up with the pace of their opponents. Geoffrey Kondogbia opened the score for France in the 19th minute. The French youngsters doubled the score in the 34th minute thanks to Jean-Christophe Bahebeck’s header.

France even had the luxury to miss a penalty in the second half of the game, before scoring the third goal with Yaya Sanogo. Despite their advantage, “Les Bleus” continued their attacking as Jordan Veretout sealed the victory in the 74th minute with a flawless finishing.

Sinan Bak??’s effort reduced the score in the 77th minute.

Having finished group A in first position, France reaches the quarter-finals as one of the favorites of the tournament while Turkey ends its journey with some regrets as first-time hosts of the tournament.

Elsewhere, Spain won 2-1 its knockout game against Mexico, Uzbekistan defeated Greece 3-1 to accede to the quarter-finals. Uruguay joined them later in the night by edging Nigeria 2-1.
