Azeri judoka Elmar Gasymov loses in 1/4, still has chance for bronze at Olympics - UPDATE

Azerbaijani judo fighter Elmar Gasimov weighing in at 100kg has beaten Kazakh Maksim Rakov with a minimal score to qualify for the round of 8 at the London Olympics.

Gasymov is the only judoka representing Azerbaijan that is still participating in Olympics. All the other Azerbaijani athletes have been eliminated from the Olympic games.

After defeating Rakov, Gasymov was to participate in the 1/8 finals, against Georgian Levan Jorjoliani.  Gasymov won the match, as Jorjoliani earned two faults, which brought Gasymov a winning point.

Next, Gasymov tested his skill and power against the 34-year old Hee-Tae Hwang from S. Korea, who was world judo champion in 2003. Gasymov lost to Hwang, yet he will still have a chance to win bronze medal in his next fight.

Azerbaijani judoka Elkhan Mammadov completed performing at London 2012 Summer Olympics by losing to South Korean judoka Dae-Nam Song in the 1/8th finals.

Earlier Azerbaijani judoka Ramila Yusubova defeated judoka Gulnar Haybayeva from Turkmenistan at the 1/16th finals during the tournament. Later she lost to South Korean judoka Young Da-Woon in the 1/8th finals.

Azerbaijani judoka Elnur Mammadli lost in 1/32 finals at the XXX Summer Olympics in London as well.

He was defeated by athlete from Canada Val-Antoine Forte, winner of the Beijing Olympics. Earlier, four of the Azerbaijani judoka ended their participation in the tournament.
