European karate championship underway in Baku

The 39th European junior and youth karate championship is underway in the Sport and Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev in Azerbaijan`s capital. Junior karate fighters have joined on the second day of the championship attended by more than 700 sportsmen from 40 countries.

Azerbaijan is represented in the kumite event by Nijat Abbasov weighting in at 55 kg, Uzeyir Alishanov at 61 kg, Shamil Guliyev at 68 kg, Rasul Alizade at 76 kg, Sayyad Ildirimzade above 76 kg, Sevinj Mehdiyeva at 48 kg, Tansul Bagirova at 53 kg, Aysel Babayeva at 59 kg and Farida Abiyev above 59 kg. Under-21 Azeri fighter Elvin Eyvazov is competing in the kata event.
