Azerbaijani Ombudsman recommends not allowing construction of filling stations near major residential areas

Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova recommended the appropriate authorities not to give consent to open fueling stations near large residential areas. It was stated in Suleymanova’s report for 2010, which was submitted to the Azerbaijani Parliament.

The report says that one of the factors that threaten the right to ensure safe living of the population is a function of fueling stations near residential homes. Commissioning of such stations, particularly in Baku, in the cities and the regional centers, near houses and public buildings, towns and villages located on the main routes, poses a serious threat to life, health and property of people living in these places.

"It is recommended not to give consent to the opening of the refueling points without taking into account the relevant competent authorities of the existing standards".

Ombudsman, along with the recommendation to the authorized state agencies to prevent such phenomena, suggests the adoption of serious security measures around these objects in the future.
