MP: Azerbaijan needs to to adopt law "On creative people and creative associations" soon

Azerbaijan should accelerate the adoption of the law "On the creative people and creative associations” Azerbaijani Parliamentary Culture Committee Chairman Nizami Jafarov said.

"Creative people play a special role in society, therefore they must have a certain status," Jafarov said.

Jafarov said even the law has long passed the first reading, its submission for the second reading is delayed.

Jafarov noted that now activity of the creative associations is governed by the non-governmental organizations.

“Creative associations must have the support of the State, but not funded through grants, as NGOs, " Jafarov said. He noted that the Cabinet of Ministers must approve the list of such organizations to provide funding.

The draft law "On the creative people and creative associations" was discussed in the parliament in 2007. The agenda of the spring session of Parliament in 2011 does not include the discussion on this law.
